LEARN

What is Somerset County LEARN?

Somerset County LEARN brings together early childhood programs, families, school districts and child-serving organizations in our county to assess what quality early learning programs are currently available in the community and to develop ways to encourage quality early learning.  They also work with school districts and community-based early learning programs to develop ways to make smooth transition from preschool to kindergarten for child, families, and teachers.

Why should I care about Early Learning?

About 90% percent of our brains develop before we reach kindergarten.  What children experience before age five can affect the way their brains develop!

Young children learn best when:
  • The have proper health and nutrition;
  • A safe and stable family and home life;
  • Activities that stimulate creativity, curiosity, and all the skills they will need to succeed in school and in life.

What are member's responsibilities?

There are many opportunities to be involved. LEARN ‘s central committee will match team members’ interests with projects and activities throughout the year.

For example, members can:
  • help with projects such as Kids Fair and PA Promise Month activities
  • distribute flyers at community events such as Night Out or the county fair
  • write articles for company newsletters advertising projects, programs and events
  • plan open houses and create and send invitations
  • be a champion for children

So how do I join?
