In November, 1981, SCTS began operating in order to access transportation funds made available by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
SCTS is operated in accordance with guidelines set up by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Services are provided by The Somerset County Commissioners, with The Community Action Partnership for Somerset County/ Tableland Services, Inc. as the operating agency.
Transportation is provided to the general public on a demand response basis. Everyone must be scheduled via phone at least (1) day in advance of desired service. Transportation services are scheduled daily prior to 3:00 pm.
The system operates Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Our first scheduled pick up daily is 8:15 am and all schedules must be completed by 3:00 pm.
Additional and extended hours of service are provided on an as needed basis. Passengers are requested to contact the office regarding potential early or late pickup and drop off times.
We have 23 vehicles in our present system. Thirteen (13) are equipped with wheel chair lift or ramp. These vehicles are based in (6) locations in the county. The locations are: Somerset, Confluence, Meyersdale, Hollsopple, Central City and Windber. The System is set up under a fare structure with the county divided into 14 zones. We have scheduled certain days of the week and/ or month for certain areas to assure some transportation service to people living in these areas. In this way, passengers can plan ahead and know when to make their appointments, etc.
In the event of a cancellation or a holiday; we make every effort to re-schedule these days. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions. No service is provided on days when adverse weather conditions cause area schools to be closed.
